    Mikołów
    In the village of Borowa Wieś, a district of Mikołów, there is a historic wooden church of Saint Nicholas. It was moved to its current location from nearby Przyszowice in 1937-39. The building is a typical, oriented structure, with a tower and a turret on the roof. It is surrounded by arcades, serving as shelter for pilgrim called “soboty” meaning “Saturdays” in English, because pilgrims used to gather here on Saturdays. The church equipment comes from the seventeenth or eighteenth century. Like many wooden churches of the region is mostly in the Baroque style. The monument is located on the Wooden Architecture Trail of the Silesia province.

    The Refuge of Peace is a life-work of Mother Eve from Miechowice, a person famous all over Silesia. Waleska von Tiele-Winckler, named Mother Eve, was an aristocrat, who devoted her life to helping the poor and needy. In 1890, the first residential care center, called the Refuge of Peace, was opened in Miechowice near Bytom (now a district of the city). In the following years, new buildings were added, creating a center of charity care homes, a nursing school, and even its own church.

    W 1983 roku dyrekcja KWK „Zabrze – Bielszowice” podjęła decyzję budowy nowej sztolni szkoleniowo-propagandowej, którą połączono ze starymi wyrobiskami dawnej kopalni „Królowa Luiza”. Powstała wzorcowa sztolnia szkoleniowa, doskonale imitująca prawdziwą kopalnię i posiadająca m.in. zmechanizowane ściany wydobywcze. Otwarcie całego zespołu wyrobisk, nazwanego Ośrodkiem Szkolenia Zawodowego i Propagandy Górnictwa przy KWK „Zabrze – Bielszowice”, nastąpiło w grudniu 1985 r. Współcześnie na bazie dawnego ośrodka szkoleniowego i wyrobisk „Królowej Luizy” powstał Park 12C, dedykowany przede wszystkim dla rodzinom z dziećmi i zorganizowanym grupom szkolnym.

For those who love the history of mining there are a surface and two underground routes on the levels of 170 and 320 meters.     The Museum of Coal Mining in Zabrze is located in a historic nineteenth-century building of the former district administration of Zabrze. This building itself is worth seeing, but the most interesting is the museum exhibition, presenting a rich tradition of coal mining. During a visit to the museum we learn almost everything about coal mining technology and the history of the industry, as well as labor, culture and daily life of miners.

    Centrum Dokumentacji Deportacji Górnoślązaków do ZSRR w 1945 roku mieści się w budynku byłego dworca kolejowego w Radzionkowie. Placówka pełni różne funkcje w obszarze edukacji, kultury, historii, a także zachowywania dziedzictwa kulturowego. Stała ekspozycja przybliża historię deportacji i uświadamia zwiedzającym, że 1945 rok – czas końca wojny i wyzwolenia, dla wielu śląskich rodzin był początkiem gehenny związanej z masową wywózką na wschód. Wielu Górnoślązaków pozostało na radzieckiej ziemi na zawsze. Wystawa w interesujący sposób łączy ślady przeszłości w postaci eksponatów z nowoczesnymi rozwiązaniami multimedialnymi.

    Mikulczyce was mentioned at the beginning of the fourteenth century as Mikulczicz and, later as Niculticz. For a long time, it was an independent village until the 50s of the twentieth century, when it became a district of Zabrze. Industrial development took place with the acquistion of the village by the von Donnersmarck in the first half of the nineteenth century. A Lutheran church was built in less than two months in 1937, using environmentally friendly solutions from Scandinavia.

The area around the General Józef Ziętek Roundabout in Katowice is one of the most recognizable places in the capital of Upper Silesia. Even today visitors are impressed by the bold shape of the Sport and Show Arena known as Spodek ("Saucer in Polish). On the opposite side of the roundabout there is the Monument of the Silesian Insurgents and close to it the bronze statue of General Ziętek. An unusual memento of the communist times is the so-called Super Unit. A more recent landmark is "Rondo Sztuki", a an art and cultural centre.

The tradition of such constructions in the capital of Upper Silesia dates back to the interwar period, when the first “skyscraper” in the country was erected in Katowice. Currently, the record high building is the skyscraper "Altus", which is 125 meters tall and has a total area of about 69 000 square meters.

In 1984, the reactivated Silesian Museum in Katowice was moved into the impressive building of the former Grand Hotel at today’s 3 Korfanty Street. The construction of the building was financed by Max Wiener, an entrepreneur from Katowice in 1899. It was designed by Ignatz Gruenfeld or Gerd Zimmermann. The building is made of brick, giving it an elegant, neo-Renaissance form with decorative gables and projections.
