Katowice
The Coal Mine "Wieczorek" in Nikiszowiec, a district of
Katowice is one of the longest operating mine in Upper
Silesia. Coal mining in Janów began in the late eighteenth
century. The origins of the mine "Wieczorek" date back to
the first decades of the nineteenth century. For a long time,
the mine operated under the name "Giesche", and after
WW2, it received its current name. It is worthwhile to see
the shaft "Pulaski", at which we can see an impressive
pithead building designed by the Zillman brothers.
