Łaziska Górne
"The Museum of Power Industry in Łaziska Górne was founded by enthusiasts of this industry in 2003. The exhibition, numbering several thousand items, is housed in the Łaziska Power Plant, in the building of the former distribution board from 1928. Visitors can admire an extensive collection of energy meters, machinery and equipment, documents and photographs, and even see how the original light bulb invented by Thomas Edison is working."
Wyry is a village located in the picturesque forest area in the region of the Pless Forest. The area was the scene of a lesser-known battle during the 1939 Defensive War. The three-day-long events that took place after the German invasion on Poland are referred to by historians as the Wyry Battle. Here, we can visit, among others, the combat shelter „Sowiniec", which houses an exhibition presenting those events. There is also a monument to the Soldiers of September 1939.
The Silesian Botanical Garden in Mikołów Mokre is one of the largest and most modern in Silesia. Its main aim is to protect the biodiversity of the region, to conduct educational activities targeted at different age groups and to stimulate pro-environmental attitudes in society. The Botanical Garden is also a great place for recreation and relaxation. It also does some scientific research.
For centuries Mikołów, one of the oldest towns in Upper Silesia, had a multicultural face. The Jewish community, which was present here for about 300 years, played a significant role in the town’s history. At the end of the seventeenth century, they founded the first Jewish cemetery, which has survived to this day. The new cemetery is situated between the streets of Stara Droga and Konstytucji 3 Maja. There are about 200 tombstones preserved in the cemetery, the oldest of which date from the first half of the eighteenth century.
The palace in Zawiść is a Baroque mansion, erected in the first half of the eighteenth century, and rebuilt in later times. Since the 50s of the twentieth century, the palace has been used as an educational and therapeutic facility for children and adolescents. Due to this fact, the former residence is not open to the public at present. The property is located within the park, in which other old manor buildings have been preserved.
