The two-storey church in the Syberka housing
estate was being under construction
throughout the 1980s. It is one of the churches
for whose erection the residents were for a long
time struggling with the communist authorities.
The idea of the Sanctuary of Golgotha of the
East, which was created in the 1990s,
commemorates members of many generations
of both deportees of the tsarist regime and
victims of the Soviet genocide.
The history of the railway stations in Będzin is
associated with the construction of a side
branch Warsaw-Vienna Railway in 1858,
which linked Ząbkowice, then located in the
Russian annexed territory, and part of Silesia
lying under Prussian rule. The present
building of the railway station of BędzinMiasto was built much later, in the years
1927-1931, when the station replaced the old
building, dating back to the second half of the
The Royal Castle in Bedzin is a medieval stronghold. It is not a royal residence, but a military outpost, which from the times of King Casimir the Great on, guarded the border between the Polish Kingdom and Silesia. Maximilian von Habsburg was kept as a prisoner in the castle. It also served as home for Polish kings. In the 19th century, the castle was embellished by an Italian artist. Fortunately, it has survived to our times. Nowadays, the castle houses collections of theZagłębie Museum.
The Będzin Zagłębie Museum operates two historical buildings - the 14th century Gothic castle on Castle Hill and the 18th century Mieroszewski Palace in Gzichów. The palace was adapted to the purposes as a museum in 1983. The well-preserved and carefully restored building houses the following exhibitions: “Stylish Interiors of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries”, a collection of weapons, paintings and prints by Samuel Cygler. There are also ethnographic and archaeological exhibitions.
The Będzin church of the Holy Trinity is very
nicely situated on the slope of Góra Zamkowa
(Castle Mount), close to the castle. The parish
in Będzin appears for the first time in written
sources in the list of the parishes and churches
belonging to the Sławków deanery in 1308.
However, it is supposed that the beginning of
the parish goes back to the first half of the
13th century. The today’s building, which had
been erected in the 14th century, was burnt
down by the Swedes and rebuilt in the 17th
century in the Baroque style.
